The GODDARD TENNIS CLUB (GTC)
SINGLES TOURNAMENT SATURDAY & SUNDAY May 24-25, 2008 REGISTRATION 9:00 AM Play begins promptly at 9:30 BRING: $5 and 2 cans of new balls REFRESHMENTS PROVIDED Trophies to top finishers New and non-members welcome TO SIGN UP Call: (301) 614-6299 or Email: Andrew.J.Negri@nasa.gov Rain date: Monday, May 26 ***All tournament participants who play on the GTC ladder will advance in ladder standing to the position they finish in the tournament.*** |
The GTC tournaments are Swiss-style round-robin: winners-play-winners and losers-play-losers every round, so everybody eventually plays opponents on their own level.
The tournaments are usually open to anyone qualified to play on the GTC courts: members, family members, and guests.
Tournament play counts as a ladder match, unless one of the players explicitly says "no" before the tournament match begins.
At the discression of the ladder chairman, ladder members playing in and completing the GTC singles tournaments are promoted to the top of the ladder, in the order that they finish in the tournament. Ladder members who receive this promotion are subject to unrestricted challenges for the next 4 weeks.
Tournament registration is on a sheet posted at courtside a few weeks before the tournament, or via phone or e-mail to the tournament director.
The tournament director is responsible for seeding, based on ladder standings and best judgement of skill. Please don't argue with him/her.
Andy Negri/Code 613.1 is the tournament director [andrew.negri@nasa.gov, vox: 301-614-6299, fax: 301-614-5492].
Here are Andy's recommendations for running a tournament:

From: Powers, Michael K. (GSFC-567.0) Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 1:00 PM To: tennis@majordomo.gsfc.nasa.gov Subject: Goddard Tennis Club 2008 Application and Treasury Report Tennis Club, Attached is the 2008 application and 2007 Treasury Report. Maria and I are very busy right now and I donÕt know if an Annual Meeting will be organized this year. IÕll be on travel all next week, but please go ahead and send your applications to me (Code 567). If anyone has strong feelings that a meeting should be held, weÕd welcome your help in getting it organized for early April. If not, hereÕs some status: -The budget is in good shape, as GEWA continues to reimburse us for maintenance costs -Larry Waters is still around to maintain the courts, but he may be moving sometime this year. This is a significant concern since we have nobody else to do the work. -New ball machine balls will be purchased as well as new lock/keys for the shed. If someone would like to volunteer to purchase an outdoor lock and copy 25 keys, IÕd appreciate the help and will reimburse expenses, of course. -Dennis Chesters indicated that an older (but working) ball machine was donated to the Club. ItÕs in the shed. If you need a temporary badge for access to the tennis courts, please send me a message as soon as possible. ThatÕs all I have for now.
